Bird Hide
Boundary Brook in Oxford (2022)
Project Journey
The Earth Safe Design bird hide project. We created a stunning and sustainable experience for bird enthusiasts using natural materials. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience, allowing visitors to watch and photograph an array of beautiful bird species.
Back in 2021, we were approached by a representative from our local Nature Reserve committee with a special request. They wanted our help in designing and constructing a bird hide. A construction that could offer a peaceful retreat for meditation while enhancing the appeal of an underutilised reserve area. We were thrilled to create a charming round structure with a reciprocating roof and central roof lantern. This project was made extra special by using tree poles from Forrest thinning of the reserve. The project brought us joy and fostered collaborative moments with local volunteers and fellow bird lovers as weekly building sessions became routine.
We proudly watched the main structure rise by spring 2022. By the end of the year, we had installed the stunning green sedum roof. With the onset of spring, the bird hide came to life, welcoming enthusiasts to indulge in the melodious songs of our feathered friends. And to enjoy the unparalleled beauty of nature. Our bird hide project evokes a sense of nostalgia as we think back fondly on the memories we created.
