The Earth Safe Design approach to Passivhaus construction is sustainable and energy-efficient, with a sleek and stylish aesthetic connecting indoor and outdoor living areas. This design’s functional layout offers ample living space. Whilst advanced insulation and airtight envelope technology maintain a comfortable indoor temperature year-round. It also features large, energy-efficient windows that bathe the interior with natural light and offer stunning views. This eco-friendly and contemporary home is perfect for those who value sustainability and modern design.
In 2016
We were approached by an investor who showed great interest in our innovative and ecological building methods. He desired to participate in a more significant innovation project and proposed collaborating to develop a prefabricated straw bale system. Excited about this opportunity, we formed a new company called Prefabio (now known as BioBuilds ) and embarked on this venture.
Within a relatively short period, we successfully established a factory that produced prefabricated straw bale walls and, eventually, entire houses. Our first significant achievement was Casa Ria, a prototype that showcased the potential of our straw bale prefab system. Designed to meet Passive House standards, this impressive 325 sqm construction was completed in 2018 and received certification from the Passive House Institute.
Today
Casa Ria serves as a holistic health retreat centre, providing a serene environment for guests. It features a spacious shared kitchen and living room, along with six en-suite bedrooms. The southern facade of the retreat centre is entirely composed of a two-story greenhouse, capturing ample sunlight. Inspired by our initial success, the owner has also added additional residential units to the retreat centre, utilizing the original technology we developed.
Situated amidst picturesque mountainous terrain and lush woodlands, our retreat centre offers a tranquil escape in a rural setting. Combining our innovative building methods and the breathtaking natural surroundings creates a truly unique experience for all who visit.
